Top Tips for our Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade

20/10/21

Are you visiting the WILD woods for our most magical event of the year… The Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade? Oooh, what a lucky pudding you are! Get ready for a Snagglefang-tastic evening with the Twiggles & Boggles!

We’ve popped together our top tips for the evening for you…

1. Arrive as close to your chosen timeslot as you can. Once you’ve checked in with our Twiggle Team at the BeWILDerbat Greeting Gate, you’ll head to Hazel’s Hideaway where you’ll have plenty of time to craft your own Boggle-Bindle Lantern before embarking on the Parade route! (There’s no need to arrive particularly early or panic if you’re a bit late!)

2. Wear your bestest spooky costumes (but add wellies and warmth to your outfits!) We love to see everyone dressed up in their favourite Halloween garments, whether you’re a sparkly witch, BeWILDerbat, or creepy crawly… but don’t forget to wear good, comfy shoes or boots you don’t mind getting a bit grubby, and bring layers and raincoats so you’re prepared for any chilly or splishy sploshy weather!

3. Save space for scrummy snacks along the way – there’s two opportunities to purchase some grub and beverages during this fantastical event. Hazel’s Hideaway has yummy snacks and hot drinks. Then, about three quarters of the way around the parade route, you’ll reach the Munch Bar which has looots of delicious hot food and drinks! So don’t worry if you get peckish or need a warming hot chocolate during your magical journey!

4. Don’t miss all the magic! Make sure you look up, down and all around to see all the magic the Twiggles are making in the woods. The Parade route is quite a long walk (over 1km!) and takes around 1.5 hours to walk so be prepared for an enchanting journey!

5. Pack some extra glowing lights! Everyone attending this event has the opportunity to craft their own Boggle-Bindle Lantern to help light their way through the woods… However, if you have little Twiggles who aren’t so keen on the dark, or you have a later time slot (7pm or 7.30pm) it might be a good idea to bring extra light or items that glow in the dark as a handy back up!

6. Playing in the park by day? If you’re running WILD in the woods with us too, you may be wondering what happens at dusk once the park has closed and there’s a wee while before you timeslot for the Lantern Parade… Well, if you have the earliest timeslot of 6pm then don’t stray too far, we’ll be able to admit you to Hazel’s Hideaway as soooon as the Twiggle Team are ready, but the Parade route won’t open till 6pm when it’s dark enough, ooo!

If you have a later time slot, we recommend heading out to a nearby town like Wroxham, Coltishall or even Norwich for some dinner at a nice family pub or restaurant! If you’re local, you could even pop home – a perfect time to grab your spooky costumes and any extra layers, too!
